What is Express Entry

What is Express Entry?

The Express Entry is a new selection system for Canadian immigration designed to selected skilled workers based on their ability to become economically established upon immigration to Canada.

This system does not place caps on specific occupations, and Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) aims to process application within six months.

Candidates eligible under the Express Entry must complete an online profile and will be placed in a pool with other candidates. Top candidates selected by CIC will receive an invitation to apply (ITA) for a Canadian Permanent Resident visa, at which point they will have 60 days to submit a complete and accurate application.

Express Entry is used to manage applications under three federal immigration programs

  • The Federal Skilled Workers Program (FSW)
  • The Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)
  • The Canadian Experience Class (CEC)

Provinces and territories can also select candidates from the Express Entry system through their Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP) to meet local labour market needs.

Note: Entry into the Express Entry Pool does not guarantee a candidate will be issued an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent resident.
Invited candidates still have to meet eligibility and admissibility requirements under Canada’s immigration law.
